Last Friday, an act of dissemination of the VITIREG project was carried out through which we seek to develop new regenerative viticulture techniques adapted to improve the quality of the soils of the Rioja vineyard and the quality of the grapes obtained.
The Operative Group behind the project is made up of six entities (VIDAR, LA UNIVERSIDAD DE LA RIOJA, ENCORE LAB, SUBTRATOS DE LA RIOJA, COOPERATIVA SAN PEDRO APÓSTOL AND BODEGA VICO) who have detected the need for the Rioja wine sector to find a solution to heterogeneity of wines associated with soil desertification problems.
Through the contribution of SPCH and/or microbiological preparations, the use of vegetable covers or other techniques, we will be able to increase the organic matter of the soil, reduce erosion, improve the carbon footprint balance, reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, improve the nutritional balance of the vineyard and achieve greater resistance to diseases.
The VITIREG project is possible thanks to the co-financing of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (FEADER) of the European Union, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of the Government of Spain and the Government of La Rioja.
